Silhouettes

Melinda, I didn't ignore your request, I was just not sure how to answer this question. I have loved silhouettes as long as I can remember. I think it started when I first saw Gone With The Wind...

This is just one of about 20 sillouets in GWTW. Watch it sometime and count them, they are AMAZING... So I started experimenting with trying to make my own. Sometimes I make my own... I knew the main ingredient was a light source behind the subject, with no flash. This part makes the image backlit. This was the result.

Here's how I did it. I use Photoshop CS4. So I used the quick selection tool and selected all of Natalee, and all of Renee' (and the pine cone) and then just painted it black. And since I didn't want Renee' to have a huge lump on the back of her head, I PS'd a black shadow of hair. But I still wasn't happy. I wanted a REAL sillouet. Then one day it happened... Serendipity... an unexpected pleasant discovery or happening. Our screen door... isn't a screen door... Well it doesn't have a screen. So on a pleasant day I had the door open, with the screen door shut letting the breeze in. My puppies jumped up on the screen door to look in. I grabbed my camera, they were soooooo cute. I snapped the picture too quickly, and the flash didn't fire. This was the result.

Finally a true sillouet! The only thing I PS'd on this one was I did lower the saturation, which made the background closer to blk and wt. I was glad, but I still didn't know how I did it. I hadn't used a flash in the one above this either... Then it happened again!

This one is totally un PS'd and yet still a true silhouette. Finally I figgured out what was different about this one. There was a strong light source behind it, no flash, same as the mother and child, what was the difference? The Puppies were in the shadow of the eve of the house. I think this was the missing ingredient. So my advise is 1) strong light source behind, 2) no flash, 3) subject in shade. That way no light is registering on the subject for the camera

Why Photographer's Should Wear Black.

I recently read an article called "Why Photographer's Should Wear Black" One reason it sited was because if you are wearing white you reflect too much light onto your subject. Another friend of mine pointed out if you wear orange, all of your subjects will have orange eyes. Look at this picture, you can see my white arms black shirt and blue jeans... That my dear friend is why Photographer's Should Wear Black...

I have dreamed of this! I wanted a smaller more easily used, and yet interchangeable lenses SLR... And now they have invented it... of course it has some glitches, this is the first one, the size of a small camera yet you can attach these HUMONGO lenses!!!

A couple of years ago, we shot ourselves in the foot... Ok not literally, but close enough. We pulled the two oldest out of public school, and put them in home school. To make it easier on us, since Nana was going in the fifth, and Matt the seventh, we split the difference and put them both in sixth grade. Good plan at the time. Now they are both in public school in the Eight grade... So next year they will be in high school. This was a pic I took right before taking them to High school Orientation.

Nana was sick today, mee tooo, so I made her some french toast... See, I heart her.

About 14 years ago, before the Internet, we had an old computer, I want to say it was a 286... real real real old. But it was free... and we could play wheel of fortune on it, so we thought we were hot stuff. One of the screen saver options was scrolling text... Que decided to show me some love one day, so he typed into the screen saver "Love my Nella bunches, love her great big bunches" Which is a wonderful thought, except the scroll ran out of character space, and deleted the last three/four letters as he typed them, and he didn't notice that until I pointed out that the scrolling text said "Love my Nella bunches, love her great big buns"... He was a little perturbed... Over the years we have joked about that.

Next part to this story, I sleep with a teddy bear... Well I used to. I mean like back in March of this year I used to. Que kept stealing it, so we bought this bunny on clearance after Easter so he could sleep with the bear, and me the bunny. I named her "Nella Buns"... lol

Oh and here is a bonus picture of Juliannah and Etcetera sleeping on Daddy's computer. lol

Yes I am serious. Hey, it worked. The exhaust fan in our bathroom doesn't work, and when it rains as it is now... it leaks. Well it did. It was right over the commode... See, all of the doors are open. Why you ask? I'm so glad you asked, now I can tell you about my pet.Look closely, see the lizard on the steering wheel? I opened the doors hoping he would escape, I didn't want to kill him. Instead he climbed on my steering wheel to sun.

Then he jumped down into my seat. Meanwhile I opened the drivers door hoping he would get out, and went inside to do some stuff.

About an hour later I come out and is he out of the car? No he is napping...

You can see the open doors. I finally chased him out of the car and closed all the doors.

I came out about an hour later and he was on the hood of the car... I made Nana catch him, and get him off the car. I didn't want to drive off with him there.

I think it is sooooo cool how if I water my Philodendron , if it gets more water than it needs, not enough to harm it, just enough so that it has an abundance, water will drip off the tips of the leaves, it just seeps out...

To me that is such a picture of God's grace. He wants us to just be dripping in his love and blessings we are so saturated.

So I'm really not seceding on this one picture thing. Today was a wonderful rare snow day for us. We love Snow! Here is the snow man...

The kids had a great idea to fill plastic containers with snow, and use them as blocks to make a snow fort... Smart kiddies...
